How did we get from one denomination to thousands? What are the whens, the whos, and whys?

I will add the founding dates posted here of each denomination to our calendar. There are many, many, other important dates for each denomination, and please add these here as well, although only the founding dates will appear on the calendar.

Feel free to add as much additional information about the founding in your post, as well as to reply with additional information pertaining to the founding.

While this is in the non-debate area, corrections regarding historical facts is appropriate.
