Free Methodist Church August 23, 1860
The Free Methodist Church split from the Methodist Church, primarily because the Methodist Church did not take a stand on Slavery, and the Methodist Church practice of renting and selling church pews, which left the poor sitting on benches in the back of the church. And finally, they felt that Methodists were too formal in their worhip style.
