April 6 1830 is recognized as the official first day of TCOJCOLDS. This is the day the Church was organized and formalized with the state of New York. On this day there was 6 official members as that was the requirement of the state at that time. There had been groups meeting before that time and there was also more than 6 people in attendence at the first official meeting of the church. But for all intents and purposes April 6 1830 was the begining of TCOJCOLDS,which was a Tuesday,BTW.

Through the years there has been individuals and groups who have broke off from the LDS church. The largest of these is the RLDS now known as the Community of Christ. There is also Church of Christ Temple Lot and the Strangeites who have maintained followings thru the years. There are an unknown number of small groups out there who use the Book of Mormon but don't recognize the authority of TCOJCOLDS. These are usually the polygamy groups and that is why they aren't part of TCOJCOLDS.

CTR: I just joined this group yesterday and in looking through various threads I came across this one of yours. I know it's not the beginning of the LDS Church but I did find some interesting facts. We live in Illinois and, as you know, Joseph Smith spent some time here. Did you know that there is a Mormon Cemetary in Amboy, Illinois? One of B. Young's wives is buried there. The cemetary is located on Mormon Road. Emma had family living in Amboy and Sublette, Illinois and she and Joseph visited them often. I did some research on the Mormons in the area and found quite a lot of information. A teacher in Amboy even gave her students an assignment to find out whatever they could on the Mormons. The kids did a great job and the information was forwarded to me. We often hear of the Mormons in Nauvoo and Carthage but not in Amboy or Sublette.

While I'm not sure what a mormon cemetary is, I might have to look this up. I don't live that far from there. might you PM me with specifics? I notice on the map a Prairie Repose Cemetary. Is that what you are referring to?
Wait. I found mormon road. I might have to check this out. Some things I've found. Amboy Conference - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For some reason, it appears that the people who didn't follow the apostles out west met there and started up the Reorganized LDS church, later to be named "Community of Christ".

Hi, Darth Bill:
Yes, the Reorganized Church did get it's start in Amboy with Joseph Smith, III as the leader. There is a marker with the information on it in Amboy. The original building has been torn down so the marker is now on the outside wall of a bar. I thought that was kind of interesting but I guess that since there are so many bars in Amboy they probably didn't have too many places to put it. I have pictures of the Mormon cemetary along with the information that I've gathered. It's really interesting for anyone who is interested in history, particularly as it concerns LDS. |

On this date, June 27, 1844, Joseph Smith was killed in Carthage Jail, Carthage Illinois by members of a mob who stormed the jail.
I cannot give to words how much this man has given me. I understand how controvercial this imperfect, flawed human is, but he has let me know some of the greatest people, greatest doctrines and greatest vistas I have ever encountered or ever hope to encounter. He has opened up the atonement to me, and I am very, very grateful for that. I remember looking up at the Christus statue at Temple Square in Salt Lake City thinking how much I have come to love the Savior. I remember two years ago standing on the campus of BYU so thankful that I could have spent some time there. It opened my eyes and my heart, the short time there. It convinced me to serve a mission, two of my most miserable years of my life, but it gave me a language, German, that I studied when I came back to BYU. In German class I met my future bride. I received my first job from a reference by LDS Employment Services. LDS Family Services employed my wife and facilitated the adoptions of my three children. Indirectly, or directly if you consider it, this man has given me the greatest joys of my life, and I cannot express enough how thankful I am to have known him, if only about reading about his life and actions.
