This is similar to the denomination founding discussion, as it is to collect dates for the calendar. This area, however, allows me to link a particular date in the calendar back to a post.
A good application of this is to explain how and when you observe a particular holiday or event. For example, what is Ordinary time? When is it celebrated? Do Lutherans, Orthodox, Catholics, and Methodist obseve it at the same time? Is it the same length? What are the primary Christian religious observances of your church? When and how are they celebrated? For example, some churches observe Lent, others do not. Christmas isn't on December 25th for all Christians. Some churches have liturgical seasons, others do not, others have different seasons. When you explain your denomination's observances, to those who may not even know it exists, much less what it commemorates or how you celebrate it. Since the calendar space is at a premium, for now at least, I will limit the links to major observances. What "major" means at this point, I'm not quite sure, but it doesn't include things like denomination founder's birthdays, or individual saint days. Not that these aren't important dates, it's just a space issue. You are certainly encouraged to post all kinds of dates, but for now, only the major ones will have a link to the calendar. I hope to expand this in the coming months to include all dates in a database. |
